Year to Date - 2007

If we could have only known how much can be accomplished in such a short span of time! We are so grateful for all of the gifts the past six months have presented us. Things are moving forward at an amazing rate with our move to "Riveredge," in Chesapeake City, a much anticipated move for all! The stallions in our management are doing better than ever! News of their offspring in sport, as well as the new arrivals this year, gives each of us tremendous pride. Here's a re-cap of our Hassler Dressage "Year-to-Date!"

Rousseau:
Nov. 2006 – Rousseau is purchased in-full by Harmony Sporthorses of Kiowa, CO. Harmony Sporthorses had been partners in the stallion since 2003. Hassler Dressage retains the high honor of representing this stallion.

Feb 2007 - At the KWPN Stallion Show in February, "Zagreb"zagreb (Rousseau–Jazz–Belisar) was crowned Champion Stallion. This is the second year in a row for a Rousseau offspring to claim the Championship title at this event! "Zagreb" went on to be the top sale of the year and the highest ever at the KWPN Select Sale for 430,000 Euros. He is proudly owned by Blue Hors of Denmark and is now known as "Blue Hors Zack." Footage of Zack under Andreas Helgstrand can be seen on our website.

May 2007 – Rousseau tops the KWPN Stallion Index for 2006 with 181 points! He surpassed his peer group (riding stallions with offspring ages 4-6) by an 8 point spread.

June 2007 – The USDF released their 2006 stallion statistics. Based on the number of offspring competing in the GAIC/USDFBC Finals and their average scores, Rousseau held the #1 spot for 2006 with four finalists averaging 77.881%, his second year in a row in the final standings for this category!

May 2007 –
Zenon – Approved KWPN Stallion! Earning a 9 for his trot, suppleness, and suitability as a dressage horse, Rousseau's 2004 son "Zenon" out of the studbook mare Patoya (Whinny Jackson-Darwin) was a stand out at the May 2007 KWPN Stallion Performance Testing in Ermelo, Holland. A beautiful black stallion, Zenon earned impressive remarks regarding his conformation and overall quality as a stallion and modern riding horse type. With an overall score of 85, Zenon is now fully licensed by the KWPN. In February, under the name "Zeno," Zenon was one of four Rousseau offspring licensed at the KWPN Stallion Show. Zenon was purchased as a yearling by the British WEG team rider Wayne Channon and his wife. We congratulate the Channons and look forward to watching Zenon's career unfold to further top honors!

zatilda

July 2007 – At the KPWN Central Keuring in Flevoland, Holland, "Zatilda" (Rousseau–Symponie) was the Champion Three Year Old Ster Mare.

wambertoJuly 2007 – The decision is made to bring Rousseau's son Wamberto, Champion of the 2006 KWPN Stallion Show, to the United States so he can participate in the Stallion Performance Testing at the Paxton Farm, in Batavia, Ohio. Wamberto is due to arrive in the US by the end of the month....

Stay posted for news of his participation at the fall testing!

At the writing of this newsletter, Rousseau has FIVE offspring qualified for the Dutch National Riding Horse Championships (PAVO Cup) scheduled for August. This group represents the oldest group of Rousseau offspring under saddle... the best is yet to come!

We've had few Rousseau arrivals this season due to limited breedings available in 2006, but those few are outstanding and can be seen on the website. Rousseau is enjoying the breeding season and is in full work under Scott Hassler.

Lingh:
Hassler Dressage has deeply appreciated the honor of managing Lingh, Offield Farm's internationally renowned stallion. Lingh has remained competitively active under his new rider, Karin Offield, since his arrival in the US, so his breeding management is exclusively frozen semen. We have had the ability to extend Lingh's services to more mares than originally anticipated and we selected the mares for Lingh given his limited available inventory.rivercrosslark We are pleased to confirm very good conception rates for Lingh's 2007 season, with five mares confirmed pregnant to date, and we eagerly look forward to the arrival of sensational offspring by this stallion in the years ahead. Our website hosts a beautiful gallery of foals on the ground in the US and Netherlands by Lingh. To date, there's been one 2007 North American arrival in Canada and "River Cross Lark" (photo to left), bred by Sally Harrington Philippo, is stunning!

Davidoff Hit:
June 2007 – "Double-Oh-Seven" (Davidoff Hit–Festrausch– Continue) is Site Champion foal at his ISR/Oldenburg Inspection! This is Davidoff's first foal ever to attend inspection and with a movement score of 9.0, the judges raved about him. (photo: Bill Alphin)

On the Show Circuit – Davidoff Hit and Susanne Hassler have enjoyed a davidoff hitsuccessful debut competition season at First Level, attending the May CDCTA and June VADA/Nova Shows at Morven Park, and most recently, the PVDA Ride for Life Show in June in Upper Marlboro. (A very meaningful event for the Hassler Family in all, given the show was dedicated to all cancer survivors, and the Saturday night Dancing Horse Challenge was held in memory of Scott's mother Jill Hassler-Scoop, who we lost last fall.) Winning the majority of their classes with 70% or higher, Davidoff Hit has proven he is a real treat to campaign and continues to show Susanne what real promise the future holds.

louisvilleLouisville:
Louisville has recently arrived in our care here in Maryland! Please call with interest to visit this extraordinarily generous, internationally-proven stallion in person. Louisville was ridden in the 2000 Dutch Young Rider Championships under Laurens van Lieren and competed in Holland at Grand Prix under Laurens' father, Leunus van Lieren. In 2004, Lieren and Louisville were listed on the Dutch B Team. In 2006, Louisville and Karin Offield won the prestigious USDF Amateur Grand Prix Horse of the Year and the USDF All Breeds (KWPN-NA) Amateur Grand Prix Horse of the Year with scores over 65%.

Scott HasslerScott Hassler on the Road:
The accumulating frequent flyer miles and the many oil changes to his car are just two indicators of how busy Scott had been these past six months. His travels have taken him to all 4 corners of the USA – TX, MA, CA, VA, IL, NC, FL, GA, VA, PA, NJ and MD – wearing many hats: speaker, clinician, trainer, show coach, or instructor.

To give a little more definition to Scott's travels, they include four young horse symposiums, three clinic sites, two USEF young horse training sessions, three USEF selection trials, and monthly visits to his ten hub sites. Symposium sites include the American Hanoverian Convention, the Houston Dressage Society, the Georgia Dressage & Combined Training Association, and the New England Dressage Association. Scott's impact is being felt from riders on the Florida Circuit through the Festival of Champions as well as throughout the country among the Young Horse Classes.

Tucked among all of his travel are his responsibilities to Hassler Dressage including, but not limited to, training horses in our care, showing, office work, team meetings, and one exceptionally important project: Riveredge. This project takes on a life of its own through meetings, permitting, measuring, planning, developing, etc, etc, etc.

We are checking into the availability of the state-of-the-art medical technology – cloning – but until there is further development, Scott will be solo as he continues to handle all of his travel and responsibilities. Don't forget to wave or say "HI" as he passes by!
