3rd Annual Young Dressage Horse Trainers Symposium

The third annual Young Dressage Horse Trainers Symposium took place November 16-18, 2007 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and Event Center, in Castle Rock, Colorado. It was an event overwhelmingly received as 'inspirational' by those in attendance. Hassler Dressage and Harmony Sporthorses, as cosponsor of the event since its inception, teamed up to continue the nationwide talent search for trainers who are inspired to focus on young horses. Scott Hassler was joined by Michael Klimke, one of Germany's outstanding resources for the classical development of the dressage horse. Scott, our USEF National Young Horse Coach and Trainer, conducts Young Horse Training symposia on a regular basis. He particularly enjoys this symposium, which was initiated in 2005 from his interest to motivate professionals to take the young horse divisions seriously and to look toward young horse sport as an area for specialization. International Grand Prix competitor and trainer Michael Klimke lended his classical background to the program, sharing his insights on the foundation of training which allows the horse to develop to its full potential. These experts have each produced results from the Young Horse divisions to winning horses at Grand Prix.

Harmony Sporthorses kindly agreed to host the event and rolled out the red carpet with tremendous flair, taking care to cover every base with respect to the comfort and well-being of our participants and horses in attendance. With a lovely group of horses ranging in age from three years to seven, the group of sixty professionals who gathered at Castle Rock’s Equestrian Event Center were empowered by the knowledge and insight that Michael Klimke and Scott Hassler offered over the three days of training. Each horse made significant progress and discussions mapped out their further developmental needs during this unforgettable, productive, and meaningful event.

The teamwork and camaraderie amongst Symposium participants once again inspired us all and each participant seemed to leave the event recognizing how they could make a difference in each other’s lives, as well as in their communities. John and Leslie Malone gave Symposium participants the royal treat of visiting their beautiful facilities in Kiowa, Colorado and added in some fun with a mechanical bull for an evening’s entertainment! Symposium participants can now say that they really can "Ride the Bull!" Hassler Dressage thanks everyone involved in making Symposium 2007 and we look forward to hosting future symposiums from our new home base at Riveredge in Chesapeake City, MD.
